Madrid imposes arms embargo on Israel

Spain’s parliament passed a non-binding resolution last week urging the government to impose an arms embargo on the Israeli regime in response to its military operations in Gaza.
In an interview with Al Jazeera on Sunday evening, Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares stated, “We will no longer allow arms sales to Israel, and we will not permit ships carrying these weapons to dock in our ports.”
He further emphasized that Spain is committed to pursuing a two-state solution, adding, “We intend to intensify our efforts to stop the war in the Gaza Strip, a war that is turning the region into a graveyard and whose sole purpose appears to be transforming Gaza into a cemetery.”
Referring to the European Union’s relations with the Israeli regime, Albares said, “EU-Israel relations must be based on respect for human rights. We, for our part, must raise our voices and take necessary actions to stop the war in Gaza.”
