Israeli military raid on UNRWA schools in East Jerusalem

According to the Palestinian news agency “Maan,” Israeli forces stormed UNRWA-affiliated schools in the Shuafat camp in northeastern occupied Jerusalem on Thursday morning. They issued military orders mandating the evacuation and closure of these schools, demanding that students and educational staff immediately leave the area.
The report stated that Israeli police were deployed around the UNRWA-supervised schools and their premises, preventing any continuation of educational activities at these centers.
Maan reported that Israel has systematically and deliberately intensified restrictions on the operations of Palestinian educational institutions in occupied Jerusalem.
Previously, in early April 2025, Israeli authorities issued a military order to the director of a girls’ school in the Shuafat camp, mandating its closure starting May 8, 2025.
This decision by Israeli authorities regarding the closure of educational centers in occupied Jerusalem also includes five other UNRWA-supervised schools in Silwan, Wadi al-Joz, and Sur Baher, which serve over 800 students.
