Killer of Shireen Abu Akleh Revealed
The "Zeteo" platform released an investigative documentary unveiling the true identity of the individual responsible for the martyrdom of Shireen Abu Akleh, a Palestinian journalist, in May 2022.
According to Zeteo's website, Alon Skagyo, an Israeli soldier, targeted and killed Shireen Abu Akleh, an Al Jazeera journalist, while she was covering an Israeli military raid on the Jenin refugee camp in 2022.
The documentary states Skagyo deliberately targeted Abu Akleh while she was covering the raid, despite her wearing a clearly marked "PRESS" vest and helmet.
Skagyo was reportedly killed in June 2024 during another Israeli military operation in the Jenin refugee camp.
Forensic investigations, including one by Al-Haq and Forensic Architecture, concluded that an Israeli marksman fired two bursts of bullets at the journalists, with the second burst fatally striking Abu Akleh. The shots were fired from approximately 200 meters away, from a sniper hole in an Israeli military vehicle.
The Zeteo documentary alleges that the shooting was intentional, supported by witness accounts and forensic evidence, contradicting Israeli claims of an accidental shooting.
The investigative documentary revealed information about coordinated efforts by Israel and the United States to conceal the truth and details of the incident.
Zeteo also noted that Israel heavily protected the identity of the soldier responsible for Abu Akleh’s death, even withholding his name from U.S. authorities.
Zeteo’s 40-minute documentary on this revelation includes exclusive interviews with former and current U.S. and Israeli officials.

In recent years, Israel has intensified its strategy of targeting journalists and media personnel to cover up its crimes against Palestinians. This systematic strategy has claimed the lives of over 200 journalists in Gaza since the onset of the war.
The Palestinian government’s media office in Gaza recently announced that since the start of Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza, 212 journalists have been martyred, and 409 others injured.
According to the report, the occupying regime has detained 48 journalists, many of whom have been subjected to torture. Since the beginning of the war on Gaza, Israeli forces have targeted 143 media institutions.
The United Nations also confirmed that over 200 journalists have been massacred in Gaza.
The UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR) in occupied Palestine issued a warning about the rising number of Palestinian journalists killed, confirming the massacre of 211 journalists in Gaza since October 7, 2023, including 28 female journalists.
According to one journalist, press vests have turned from protective gear into targets for attacks.
