Israeli cabinet opposes forming official October 7 investigation committee

During its weekly meeting on Monday, the Israeli cabinet voted against forming an official committee to probe the failures of October 7, 2023. This decision follows the political-security cabinet’s resolution last night to expand the war against Gaza.
This comes despite a letter from Gali Baharav-Miara, the cabinet’s legal advisor, urging the cabinet to “make a decision regarding investigations into the October 7 events, as avoiding a decision on forming an official investigation committee is detrimental and undermines the pursuit of truth.”
According to Haaretz, the cabinet opted to collaborate with the Knesset (Israeli parliament) to draft a bill for establishing a “special” but non-official investigative committee and to inform the Supreme Court of this within 90 days. The Supreme Court had requested the government to explain its refusal to form an official investigation committee after petitions were filed on the matter.
