Pentagon inspector expands investigation into U.S. Defense Secretary

The Pentagon’s Inspector General is now examining a second Signal chat created by Pete Hegseth.
ABC News, citing an informed source, reported that the U.S. Department of Defense Inspector General is investigating a second Signal chat room established by Hegseth, in which he shared details of an imminent attack on Yemen with family members and his lawyer.
Recently, the U.S. Defense Secretary has faced criticism for allegedly sharing sensitive operational details about an airstrike on Yemen in a private Signal conversation with his closest personal contacts, including his wife, brother, and lawyer.
This Signal chat, which included Hegseth’s wife, brother, personal lawyer, and others, contained detailed information about the March attacks on Yemen, including specific plans and flight schedules of warplanes.
While the group was initially created during Hegseth’s confirmation process to handle administrative matters, sources say it gradually became a platform where sensitive military details were informally discussed.
Meanwhile, images released by the Pentagon earlier this year show that Hegseth’s wife, a former Fox News producer, was present at classified meetings with foreign military officials.
The first classified information leak scandal, widely reported by The Atlantic, involved a separate Signal chat in which Jeffrey Goldberg, the magazine’s editor-in-chief, was mistakenly included.
This scandal revealed pre-attack details shared among several senior Trump administration officials, including Mike Waltz, National Security Advisor; Tulsi Gabbard, CIA Director; and Steve Witkoff, Middle East envoy.
The Pentagon’s investigation into Pete Hegseth is expanding as Mike Waltz, the U.S. National Security Advisor, was removed from his position.
Meanwhile, CNN, citing informed sources, reported that Trump believes the Defense Secretary should not be fired after the administration’s extensive efforts to confirm his appointment.
American sources say Trump could not overlook the fact that Mike Waltz had invited The Atlantic’s editor to the Signal discussions.
Following the Signal scandal, Trump has a significantly different view of Hegseth and Waltz.
