Expediency council approves Iran’s accession to the CFT
Mohsen Dehnavi, spokesperson for the Expediency Discernment Council, wrote on his social media account: “After holding four sessions in the plenary and in joint commission meetings, the Expediency Discernment Council, in today’s session, conditionally approved Iran’s accession to the CFT Convention.”
Regarding the details of the decision to join the Convention on Combating the Financing of Terrorism (CFT), the spokesperson said: “The Islamic Republic will act within the framework of the Constitution, which had already been set as one of the conditions by the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Parliament) for the CFT Convention.”
He added: “In the Expediency Council, another condition was added — namely, that in addition to the constitutional framework, Iran will implement the provisions of the CFT Convention only within the framework of domestic laws. Wherever the provisions of this convention conflict with the domestic laws of the Islamic Republic, the domestic laws of the Islamic Republic will take precedence.”
