Reporters Without Borders files complaint against Israeli regime in The Hague
Since October 2023, RSF has submitted its fifth complaint against the Israeli regime to the ICC, presenting new evidence of ongoing war crimes committed by the occupying army against Palestinian journalists in the Gaza Strip.
Analysis of some recent cases indicates that media professionals have been deliberately targeted.
RSF filed its first complaint against Israel on October 31, 2023, its second on December 22, 2023, the third on May 27, 2024, and the fourth on September 24, 2024.
Additionally, on January 5, 2024, RSF succeeded in having the crimes committed by the occupying army against journalists included in investigations related to Palestine by the Office of the Prosecutor at The Hague.
Antoine Bernard, Director of Advocacy and Assistance at RSF, said: “We have documented attacks between May 2024 and August 2025 that targeted at least 30 journalists, 25 of whom were killed and 5 injured.”
Bernard added: “The conclusion is clear: in most cases, journalists are targeted because of their work or while performing it. The situation is only worsening. The defamatory accusations commonly made by Israeli authorities against Palestinian journalists are used to justify this targeting. We are shocked that the perpetrators of these crimes can still enjoy impunity due to lack of judicial and political action. We particularly call on the International Criminal Court to act decisively, despite threats, pressure, and sanctions, and to fulfill its duty—nothing less, and the full extent of its duty. Crimes against journalists must be met with punishment.”
