Bahraini: The world as a duty to uphold justice, accountability, and the dignity of every human being
Ali Bahraini, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, spoke at the session on “The Human Rights Impacts of the 12-Day Attack on Iran by Israel and the United States” at the UN Human Rights Council headquarters in Geneva, saying: “In the early hours of June 13, 2025, the apartheid regime of Israel launched an unjustified and illegal military attack against the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
He continued: “This aggression, which was followed by further attacks by the United States on June 22, deliberately targeted civilian neighborhoods, critical infrastructure, and scientific sites.”
The Ambassador also stated: “Residential areas in Tehran, Karaj, and other cities were attacked; nuclear facilities under full IAEA supervision were targeted; even prisons and media centers were not spared. Humanitarian workers, medical staff, and emergency teams rushing to aid the victims were deliberately attacked, exacerbating civilian suffering and depriving them of life-saving assistance. The scale of destruction and civilian casualties was unprecedented.”
Bahraini emphasized that these actions constitute a clear violation of the UN Charter, international humanitarian law, and the most fundamental principles of human rights. He added: “Despite these crimes, the Iranian people have stood united and resilient. Today’s discussion is not only about the suffering inflicted on Iran, but also about the global duty to uphold justice, accountability, and the dignity of every human being.”
He concluded: “At the end of this side event, we wish to stress the urgent need to uphold international law and human rights in the face of unlawful aggression.”
