Israeli occupation leaves only 18% of Gaza habitable
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced on Monday that, with the expansion of Israeli occupation in the Gaza Strip, only 18% of the region’s territory remains accessible to civilians.
OCHA noted that the remaining areas are either under Israeli occupation or have been evacuated and are under Israeli attacks. The forced displacement of Gaza’s population continues, with approximately 200,000 people having fled the region in the past two weeks.
According to OCHA, the catastrophic situation in Gaza is the worst since the war began, with Israeli attacks ongoing across all sectors of the Gaza Strip, particularly in the northern region.
OCHA stated that Israeli attacks have led to the last partially operational hospital being abandoned by medical staff and doctors.
The “Noura Al-Kaabi” hospital, a specialized facility for kidney patients in northern Gaza, was targeted by the Israeli army on Sunday night, rendering it completely out of service.
This hospital was the only specialized dialysis center in northern Gaza, serving patients in areas such as Beit Lahia, Beit Hanoun, Jabalia, and Umm al-Nasr village.
Previously, parts of the hospital had been damaged in earlier attacks, reducing the number of operational dialysis machines to eight. The complete shutdown of this hospital has severely restricted access to critical medical services for kidney patients in these areas.
