The release of Palestinian prisoners under the Gaza ceasefire agreement has sparked waves of celebration across the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

The Gaza ceasefire, followed by the launch of the prisoner release process on Monday, October 13, 2025, is being carried out under the supervision of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

According to the Palestinian Prisoners Information Office, the prisoner exchange deal includes the release of 250 inmates sentenced to life imprisonment, in addition to 1,718 prisoners from Gaza who were detained after the war began on October 7, 2023.

These prisoners had been held in Ofer Military Prison (west of Ramallah) and Ketziot Prison (in the Negev desert). While the first group will be transferred to the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem, the second group will be sent to Gaza and Egypt.

According to these reports, the release includes 192 prisoners sentenced to life, 25 serving long-term sentences, and 32 detainees, along with 1,718 prisoners from Gaza arrested since the start of the war.
