No survivors in Tennessee explosives factory blast
According to American news outlets, the explosion occurred in a rural area of Tennessee and completely destroyed a factory producing explosives.
The blast was felt several kilometers away, killing 16 people, and no one inside the factory survived.
Images released from the scene show twisted metal debris and burned vehicles at the Accurate Energetic Systems plant, which produces and conducts research on explosives for the U.S. military.
The cause of the explosion remains unknown, and investigators are examining the charred remains of the site step by step in search of potential evidence.
Chris Davis, the sheriff of Humphreys County, said at a press conference: “We have not found any survivors.”
State officials have dispatched a “rapid DNA team” to assist in identifying the remains of those recovered at the scene.
Davis added that around 300 rescue workers are moving cautiously and methodically through the area, dealing with damaged and still-dangerous explosive materials. An ambulance and a helicopter for air evacuation have been stationed nearby to ensure the safety of first responders.
