Israeli media reveals Nobel laureate’s ties to Likud Party
According to a report published Saturday by the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, Machado — the head of the Vente Venezuela party — signed a cooperation agreement with Likud in 2020, aimed at strengthening what the two sides described as “shared values of freedom, democracy, and free markets.”
The agreement was reportedly signed by Eli Fried Hazzan, then-director of foreign relations for Likud and now Israel’s ambassador to Singapore.
Yedioth Ahronoth described Machado’s Nobel selection as a “historic step” and a “clear message” against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his allies in Iran.
The report further noted that Machado’s ongoing coordination with Likud reflects a deep political alignment between her movement and Israel’s ruling party.
According to the newspaper, Machado has repeatedly pledged that, if she comes to power, she will move Venezuela’s embassy to Jerusalem and consider Israel a “strategic ally for protecting democracy in the Western Hemisphere.”
Yedioth Ahronoth also reported that Machado has held multiple phone conversations with senior Israeli officials, including Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, calling these exchanges evidence of the “depth of coordination between the Venezuelan opposition and Tel Aviv.”
